In Sympathy, Remembering 2 Aunts
July, 2008 saw the passing of two of my great aunts, who I didn't know well but who were indeed loved. The first was my Nanny's half-sister Merial Preston, at age I think 92, who lived in Mississippi. She and Nanny were close. I always remember as having once been married to Uncle Ick, who had a bald head and a pet monkey that loved to swing from the lamps and pee on bald heads. Yep, that's the jokester side of my family. Then hardly a week later, we lost an aunt on my Mom's side, my Grandpa's sister Myrtle. She was the closest in age in to my Grandpa, just 2 years older (89?). They grew up together in Eastern Tennessee, and their mother died when Grandpa was just a wee tot, so I imagine he relied on Myrtle for quite a lot, especially companionship!
So in loving memory of these 2 women, I leave these words which are stamped inside this card, "The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun goes down but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops and yet, echoes on a sweet refrain. For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains." We loved you, Aunts Merial and Myrt!
A New Sewing Machine!
A perfect opportunity for a new blog entry: Show off a card AND thank my MOM! Mom just got me a sewing machine! Guess where you're going to be seeing some of those decorative stitches showing up soon? Yes! Right HERE, on CARDS!! Thanks, Mom! (This was the second card I ever made, 1 year ago, the "early years").
Welcome to Nekozet Arts!
Welcome to Nekozet Arts! It's pronounced NAY-ko-zet, and was born from two of my favorite words: My beloved kitty's name, Neko (NAY-ko), which is Japanese for "cat", and my middle name, Cosette (KO-zet), thanks to my Grandmother's reading of Victor Hugo while pregnant with my Mom!
Yep, it's that first-ever blog entry for me, and it comes with the usual caveats: Still Under Construction and Stay Tuned for More! Thanks for Visiting!! Above is pictured the first card I ever made, in July of 2007, for my PaPa's birthday.
